Chef Boyardee and regrets, according to Todd English

by Ari Herzog on June 8, 2007

The latest issue of Stuff @Night (written like that or the Blogger autocorrect function assumes I’m creating a mailto reference if typed without that space) includes an interview with chef-owner Todd English. The issue focuses on dining options in Boston, so it’s a powerful addition.

As I’m a believer in the mantra of learning a new thing every day, I learned two things, in particular, after reading the interview.

First, Chef Boyardee was a real person. This was news to me.

Second, Todd believes in fate. He doesn’t use the four letter word specifically, but it’s implied in his response to whether he has regrets.

I have moments of, “I should’ve done it that way,” or “Why didn’t I spend more time working in a French kitchen or learning that math so my accounting would be better?” I think there’s a path. I think I was meant to do this. This is what I’m meant to do. So I can’t have any regrets about it.

I agree 100 percent. I live my life in the moment, without regrets, taking life as it’s handed to me. I believe everything happens for a reason. Fate. Destiny. Since I don’t believe in coincidences, if something is meant to occur, that is fate. No?
