When he vacates office, would you be surprised if President George W. Bush reactivates his G94B@aol.com email account and joins Twitter?
I think he’d fit in well as someone unafraid to voice his opinions, telling friends and followers what he’s doing.
As the New York Times wrote in March 2001, GWB’s final email was sent to about 40 friends three days before his presidential inauguration:
My lawyers tell me that all correspondence by e-mail is subject to open record requests. Since I do not want my private conversations looked at by those out to embarrass, the only course of action is not to correspond in cyberspace. This saddens me. I have enjoyed conversing with each of you. I will miss your ideas and encouragement. So perhaps we will talk by phone.
“…Bush preferred all lower-case letters and little punctuation except dashes between thoughts, and would usually sign off, simply, ‘gwb,’” wrote NYT reporter Richard Berke.
Short bursts of information. No punctuation marks except dashes. Lowercase letters.
Yep, looks a lot like Twitter messages to me.
