This is such a great post.

I use twitter for both my company and for personal use. We've set up the company twitters to be mostly news feeds so a private response to any query would be a bit more appropriate. That said, I use my personal twitter to retweet company info and to be part of the larger conversation--whether it's related to the product I support, PR/marketing which is my career or the various hobbies I enjoy.

TweetBeep is great, as you mentioned. I also use the search mechanism heavily and will share links to hashtag searches that might be relevant for my teams, for example a link to tradeshow tweets. It's an incredible tool for staying on top of what competitors, editors and the industry are talking about.

Great post--you really get at the value of Twitter for brands. For those that now want to learn more about how to use Twitter, here are some of my favorite explanations and introduction to Twitter posts http://twurl.nl/yp7pis

Too bad, we're not still watching the Red Sox,

[...] And where is NAR on Twitter? I see nar_midyear, naraei, and ypn. Is that it? How come you didn’t use hash tags for the first two, like I mentioned #redsox in my recent article about how I use Twitter? [...]

Michael: Thanks for the reciprocal response and thoughts on companies sending emails in response to product mentions, etc.

My take is that's all and well, but if you're that company, wouldn't you want to publicly respond so the world can see your response, rather than hiding behind the veil of a private email message?

Hi Ari,

Thanks for the tweet and the comment you left on our blog. I didn't know about TweetBeep, so as an uberfan of Google Alerts, so I appreciate the heads-up on this.

Even with all the avenues available to communicate with you (Tweet, blog, comment, etc.), I do still think e-mail is a valid choice. Call me old-fashioned, but I still prefer e-mail sometimes. It's direct, private, and is still sometimes the quickest way to reach someone.

By the way, I still wish the Series this year was the Cubs and Red Sox. It would've been glorious.

Cheers,
Michael
