I don’t know which is the greater evil to a blogger: no readers or no comments.
It’s not like there is a shortage of blogs. Uhh, right.
Supposing you’ve built your blog, optimized the site for search engines, followed the advice of ProBlogger and CopyBlogger, and networked online and off to build awareness, what’s next? How do you gain readership and watch your comment numbers increase?
If your blog is underappreciated and in need of a heartbeat, Chuck Westbrook is your salvation.
After 5 weeks, 632 comments, and 95 trackbacks, it’s fair to say that Chuck has built a tremendous grassroots movement to increase your readership via his personal blog.
The movement is simple: leave a comment on his blog that you would like to participate and gain readership. Your name goes in the name field, your blog goes into the website field, and your email address won’t be published. Add a short comment of a sentence or a paragraph, and voila!
Every two weeks, Chuck will select a new blog for everyone to visit.
That’s easy enough, right?
If you know of other ways for bloggers to increase readership and commenting, please share your thoughts below. Thanks!

Has everyone here participated in the TwiTips Top Ten Twitter Users You Follow at http://www.twitip.com/construct-your-own-top-10-must-follow-list-as-it-relates-to-your-own-niche/? That will get you more traffic as there are already 108+ entries and many of those will be getting updates via email.
Next, you’re all invited to the Top Ten FriendFeed Friends Challenge at http://www.twitip.com/construct-your-own-top-10-must-follow-list-as-it-relates-to-your-own-niche/ – all comments are do-followed so you’ll get link-love for every comment. (Using dofollow on your own blogs is highly recommended.)
Lastly, make it a practice to comment on and link to other bloggers related posts in your own posts. Recommend your favorites. Add a section at the bottom of your posts and call it something significant. Change the format to Heading 4 and place all the best posts and other resources in that section. (See my blog for examples.)
All of these tips will help you grow your visibility. Get active on Twitter and especially FriendFeed – be sure you read the post on importing your feed into FriendFeed at http://friendfeed.com/louisgray too.
