HOW TO interact with ariwriter.com

by Ari Herzog on August 5, 2008 · 3 comments

Over the past six months, my blog at ariwriter.com has morphed from a two-fold idea — initially two distinct blogs, one on my personal life and one on my civic life in Newburyport — into a unified web log about the intersection of politics, society, and culture.

In recent months, I’ve written about my passions and thoughts in sustainable development, social media, law and finance, public policy, and travel.

Due to the steep growth over the past half-year, I wanted to share a few ways that people currently connect to my blog and how you can join them to respond to me and to each other.

There are a few ways to follow my blog:

  • Bookmark it
Many people choose to bookmark ariwriter.com on their web browsers. This is probably the most common.
  • RSS Feed
A popular way to avoid clicking on browser bookmarks if there is no new content is by using a news reader, such as Google Reader, My Yahoo, or Feed Demon. These applications track news feeds and display updated content. If interested, you can subscribe by RSS here. About 60 people currently subscribe to ariwriter.com this way.
  • Daily Email Updates
Maybe RSS is too confusing for you. That’s OK, because you can opt to subscribe by e-mail and receive updated posts in your inbox. About 20 people currently subscribe to ariwriter.com this way.
  • Social Bookmarking
A growing number of people follow my feed through social bookmarking tools, such as Digg, StumbleUpon, and Delicious. At the bottom of every post, such as this one, you will see an image button that says, “Bookmark.” If you move your mouse and hover over the button, it will pop open and you can choose to send this content to your favorite social bookmarking tool. I maintain profiles on some of them, which are linked off to the right.
  • Social Networking
Through social bookmarking tools above, and through social networking tools, such as Twitter, FriendFeed, and MyBlogLog, there are about 500 people currently following my blog posts and other content I push to the web.

That’s a summary of the five most popular ways that most people keep in touch with me. Am I missing anything?

Looking to the future, I’m toying with the idea of offering a weekly electronic newsletter summarizing that week’s posts. If you are interested and/or have other ideas, please post a comment below.

Thoughts?

How do you follow new posts I write? I’d love to hear your feedback to help me continue to improve what I can offer.

If you enjoyed this post, please consider leaving a comment or following future articles by RSS subscription or email delivery.

I use Google reader for all of the blogs I read (currently around 200). It’s been a lifesaver.

200! How do you do that and keep track of your own? And take all those photos to boot? I feel so lame …

Ari, good job! I have you bookmarked, as well as on my list.

Ugh…I have put off signing up for a feed reader for SO LONG! I just check your blog (and everyone else on my blogroll) every time I sign into my own blog!
