If you’re a new reader of my social media and online marketing blog advice, you may not know that I’ve written about the permissive marketing wizard many times. The most notable occasion was in a five-week-old piece why I am inspired by Seth Godin that sparked a comment by the legend himself.
It is for this reason I take a deep breath and decide not to apply for the debut of an apprenticeship program with Seth to learn about the real world of business. Don’t let my choice change yours. If you’re willing, please apply so I can learn more from you, too.
Six months ago, the name of Seth Godin could have been some ancient Persian king. But after hearing many people mention his name and link to his blog posts, I realized this is a guy I should know. I borrowed his books from the library and started reading. My first book was “The Dip” which changed my outlook on life, led me to where I am today, and continues to provide fodder in everything I do.

John Steinbeck may have encapsulated my feelings best, in his autobiography, Travels with Charley.
In Spanish there is a word for which I can’t find a counterword in English. It is the verb vacilar, present participle vacilando. It does not mean vacillating at all. If one is vacilando, he is going somewhere, but does not greatly care whether or not he gets there, although he has direction. Everything in the world must have a design or the human mind rejects it. But in addition, it must have purpose or the human conscience shies away from it.
I am no longer in the Dip. I am laying my tracks traversing the road before me. I don’t know where it will take me anymore than I know whether there will be rain next week. But I believe I’m making the right choice.
If you’re before the crossroads of choosing a new direction in life, you should opt to apply for Seth’s program. Hurry though. The deadline looms.

Hi, Ari. I applaud your interest in being receptive to others’ perceptions (like Seth) and doing the due diligence to read, research, contemplate their viewpoints. That shows a good sense of self, one that is evidently serving you well with your current endeavors. I wish you happy trails, smooth sailing, and a host of other cheezy cliche’s….:-)

When I first read Seth’s post about his internship offering…I was very excited. What a great opportunity to learn from one of the great conversationalists and authors in social media. However, what put me off was the unpaid aspect of the internship…I have to make a living. I’m 23 years old and am still paying off student loans, a car, and a gf. Not having any income for 6 months…yuck. At least pay me $10 an hour Seth…throw a poor guy like me a bone.
