Comments are the life blood of blogging — echoed by recent blog posts from the likes of John Haydon, Mack Collier, Yaro Starak, and others that scream the same takeaway:
Why your blog is the hub of your online universe
How to increase blog traffic beyond your wildest dreams
Tips on how other people can retweet your blog posts
Thoughts why few people write comments anymore
How to force everyone to talk about your blog
The list of advice goes on and on…
Dare I suggest blog comments are more important to creating a conversation than social networking updates for the reason that one needs a social networking account to add a reply on Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and other social media channels — when all that’s necessary for adding a comment on any of the aforementioned blog posts is the inspiration to add your name and email address, an optional web link and your message? It’s easy to add a blog comment but few people do for reasons shared earlier this year on how lurkers can become participants.
While social media can — and does — promote your blog post beyond your dot-com and into blogosphere notoriety, I want to focus on simple steps you can do right now to shine. Each step takes less than five minutes and can help you in ways you may never have thought about.
By returning to AriWriter every day next week, you will learn how to enhance your blog comments — whether you are a reader who wants to write a comment or a writer who wants readers to write. The mix of tactics and strategies will help you brand yourself with your created content and perhaps inspire you to view commenting in a whole new way.
If you sign up for an email subscription, each tip will arrive in your inbox before your work day begins.
It all starts on February 15. Are you ready?
Have a great weekend.

Comments are a way for people to continue discussing the topic.
I’m often surprised that bloggers close comments are 30 days, ie so you cant comment. Shame as I often trawl thru the archives and would like to add a comment… but it’s closed.
Lost opportunity?
This should be interesting.

Ari, I am going through your notes on commenting on blogs now and found this introduction after the other posts.
I wonder your thoughts on adding relevant links within comments. For example, some of your users who are interested in building traffic to their site via comments may also want to know how to make money with AdSense to earn money from the new traffic they receive.
Ok, that link may have been a stretch
but I was just curious about your thoughts on adding links within the comment…
Thanks,
Richard

Hi Ari
I’m a new blogger struggling like crazy to get comments.
Nothing looks sadder than a post without comments.
I’ve installed CommentLuv on my site in the hope of getting comments, but am looking for more advice.
I’m looking forward to your series.
