Like the commercialism of Lawrence, Lowell, and Methuen; and the tourism and culture of Salem, Peabody, and Beverly; Newburyport shares traits with these sister Merrimack Valley cities.
But all of these cities have something that lacks in Newburyport: good pizza.
I’m not a huge pizza eater, but when presented the choice between a Newburyport pizza joint and, say, Sal’s Pizza, there’s no comparison. Even better than Sal’s, in my opinion, is the Boston-based Upper Crust chain which opened in Salem last fall.
Before it spreads from Salem to Rockport, perhaps the Upper Crust could be swayed to open a gourmet location in Newburyport?
UPDATE: An Upper Crust franchise is currently under construction to rehabilitate space formerly held by a financial advisory firm. (July 22, 2008)
