My 20 Most Popular Blog Posts on Social Media

by Ari Herzog on May 27, 2009 · 7 comments

Popularity Contest (with this Thesis tweak) is a Wordpress plugin that shows a behind-the-scenes view of the popular blog posts in terms of number of comments, pageviews, and other metrics.

Marking the 24-month anniversary of AriWriter, I’d like to share with you my most popular blog posts about social media–determined by you.

Never stop sharing and learning from each other.

  1. Proof That Facebook is Censoring You: For a brief moment in time, Facebook did censor status updates with the word “Twitter.” Despite the moment passing, the post remains popular.
  2. Beware Facebook Wall Messages About SinkStumble.com: Sinkstumble.com and other sites were examples of phishing attacks, whereby if a Facebook user clicked a link, a virus would circle back into the Facebook community. The post explains the virus. Phishing attacks are still going on, but as you can see from the enormous number of comments, these particular websites are no longer causing havoc.
  3. Why Facebook Bans Must Stop: There is a problem when companies ban access to Facebook (and LinkedIn, Twitter, Ning, and other social networking sites). I try to explain why.
  4. How I Moved From Blogger to Wordpress: I migrated in October 2008–and haven’t looked back since.
  5. Twitter Porn and Why I’d Like to Help: Porn sells. I want to make money.
  6. Why My Twitter Train is Stopping: In other words, I unfollowed everyone from Twitter and this explains why.
  7. Enhance Your Wordpress Blog with 23 Plugins: An evergreen post from a moment in time.
  8. R-O-T-F-L-O-Ling at Comcast Town: The commercials have gotten somewhat better, but I still hate them.
  9. How One Post Quintupled My Blog Visitors: See the Sinkstumble post above?
  10. Why I Challenge You to Think Like Me: This is about civics.
  11. Guest Interview with Stoya: Sex Starlet Talks Back: A sequel to the Twitter porn post.
  12. Social Media Advice Not to Follow: Market Motrin and Annoy Mom: If you didn’t hear about the Motrin campaign, click to find out.
  13. My Top 10 Strategies on Social Networking: A retrospective on 10 blog posts, using the same Wordpress plugin as this list.
  14. Why Old Media Can’t Deny New Media: Is a reason necessary?
  15. How Chat Catcher is More Inclusive Than TweetBacks: I don’t use Chat Catcher these days, but still valuable as a comparison.
  16. Guest Interview with Heidi Cool: How a University Experiments with Social Media: I’ve interviewed several folks on their best practices in social media. Heidi doesn’t work at Case Western anymore, but it’s a great piece into how universities (can) use social tools.
  17. Your Status Updates on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter: A Snapshot in Time: You wrote them. I compiled them.
  18. Scientific Study of Twitter Proves What You Told Me: Value, Value, Value!: Subject says it all.
  19. Guest Interview with Chris Rasmussen: Looking at Government 2.0 Social Tools: What Heidi said about universities, Chris said about the government.
  20. To Be Smart, Governments Must Address WiFi: This is the future.

Love the post comparison and encouragement to read, Ari. Just a quick thing – don’t you agree that a WordPress plugin should be good to go from the start without the need to add extra PHP or HTML?

Cheers!

It actually *was* good to go from the start. Thesis is just different from every other template, is all.

This is a great collection of articles. I know that it wasn’t posted here, but how did the article on Mashable do?

Happy blog anniversary as well!
