My Top 12 Blog Posts from 2008

by Ari Herzog on December 27, 2008 · 4 comments

Today being Saturday, this is my final roundup of 2008.

With inspiration from many people writing year-end blog summaries, such as Elysa, and in further proof to support the claim that blogs will survive into 2009, I’d like to share with you my top 12 blog posts of the year.

It was a difficult decision, for I wanted to include a mix of personal reflection essays, social media strategy bits, and assorted pieces on the art of writing.

I hope you enjoy.

January: State of the Union
- Musing on the unspoken words.

February: My Essay on Bookstore Employment
- My thoughts from working at a Barnes & Noble bookstore.

March: Beannachtai na Feile Padraig!
- About the annual St. Patrick’s Day breakfast in Boston.

April: T + P4 = B
- T is for Talent, B is for Bliss, but you have to read the rest for the Ps.

May: Sensationalist Journalism on Kennedy’s discharge
- Short version: Don’t read newspapers. Read 140 characters instead.

June: The Brave New World of Blogging
- It started here.

July: How You’re an Ambassador of Social Networking
- You’d be surprised what you’re capable of.

August: Tweeting Tweeple Will Twitter, But Twither?
- Where is Twitter going?

September: Social Media Marketing Tip: Pause
- How much simpler can this be?

October: Thank You For Inspiring Me
- Why Seth Godin inspires me. He commented here, too.

November: Why My Face is On My Business Card
- If I’m not a real estate broker, wanna know why?

December: Why I Donate to Wikipedia
- Quite obvious during a time of giving.

As the year progressed, my blog focused and re-focused from writing about things affecting my life to writing about your lives. In particular, I interviewed some amazing social media leaders for a best practices column to continue into 2009.

Along the way, I interacted with an enormous cadre of hundreds of other bloggers who either saw me commenting on their blogs or interacted with me on other social networking mediums and decided to take the step and interact with me here. I’m talking about comments. You know who you are. I salute you.

This is my 514th blog post of the year. I hope you enjoyed it, but it is certainly not the last…

Any of these I missed I will re-read today. Thanks for all the good stuff your writing has taught me this year. You make great reference material. :)

Great recap, with several I missed during the year. I’ve just come around to the idea of having your face on a business card. The truth is that is, without question, your real logo. As we transition to the visual age, it becomes more important to provide something easy for people to grasp a hold of. If they question the propriety of putting your face on a card, they’ve at least looked at the thing, which is better than happens to 90% of them.

I try to adhere to the Asian ritual of the business card. Offer it with two hands some times, but always take the time to look at it and read the basics.

Happy New Year!
