Oh yeah, I remember CompuServe. And Prodigy.

My introduction to computers was in the early '80s with a Texas Instruments system. No hard drive; just an expansion system for floppy disks, cartridges, and such.

Today's youth are missing out on LOGO.

The first n years of my internet use were spent on CompuServe. For those who weren't around, it was sort of like Yahoo Groups.

The really great thing about it was that it was the only thing like it. As a result, *everyone* was there. If you joined the forum on any subject, you were communicating with everyone in the English-speaking world with an interest in that subject.

BTW, even before CompuServe, almost 20 years ago I ran a major project, involving vendors and installations all over the country, with MCI Mail, which was a precursor to the email we have now.

Just to make the point in my original comment above, in the first sentence of this comment, I originally put angle brackets around the "n". That is a common notation for a variable. But, it also looks like HTML. I confused the processor. It made me remove the angle brackets.

Thanks Dick. Constructive criticism, positive or negative, is all I ask.

I do hear you on simpler days. I remember browsing webpages not just on Netscape 1.0 but also on Lynx, a text-based browser. And Gopher and Archie and Veronica and all the other VAX tools.

I don't like it. Of course, I still long for the day when the internet was all text. All those graphics, pictures, etc. get in my way.

Text is best when displayed in narrow columns of dark letters on a light background; e.g., like a newspaper. Anything less makes it harder to read. There is a great deal of research related to textbooks that confirms this.

BTW, I was thinking of saying something diplomatic, but then thought better of it. :-)

Rudy, thanks for the 2 cents. In my unemployment, every little bit counts!

Time will tell whether I keep the "read more" aspect or go for a fuller look aka a newspaper.

Hey Ari,

Nice layout and soothing colors.

But, I'm not a big fan of "Read More". IMHO it prevents me reading ahead.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks Tom. I suppose I should have mentioned, if not clear, that Amanda didn't do the work for me; she provided the template (one of 101 such templates) and through trial and error with some test blogs I created, I learned how to make the changes.

Glad you like. Enjoy the hike!
