Echoed on a page 35 advertisement in the summer edition of North Shore Magazine, I recently received an unsolicited flyer (apparently via my magazine subscription) on a networking event for women to take place June 12 at the Groveland Fairways.
The online version of the flyer is here.
KISS 108 deejay and Merrimack River boater Billy Costa is hosting a four-hour evening event showcasing the cosmopolitan “North of Boston” region.
Interlocks Day & Spa, Night & Day, 10 Center Street, and other businesses throughout the region are coming together to exhibit the region’s best in fashion, food, fitness, beauty, and home decor.
What gets me is the marketing copy that screams, Don’t miss this signature event that redefines suburban chic…North of Boston.
Since when is everything north of Boston considered a suburb?
I’ll grant Newburyport a community more reminiscent of a suburb than an urban center like Haverhill or Lowell, but even then Newburyport is far more urban than Groveland where this event occurs.

That is pretty funny, especially when you consider that some of these “suburbs” were incorporated before Boston (at least Malden was).
That is funnier as I don’t consider Malden a suburb.
