Change or no change, it's about you and what gives you a chance to feel refreshed. Little changes can make a big difference. Fun changes are the best.

On blogs I visit directly it's good to see things tossed up on occasion.

Well, I did it. I figured out the Thesis Theme, installed it, and am definitely loving it. I feel like my site is much easier to read and navigate, and to manage now. Aside from a few more things I want to tweak, I can finally stop obsessing about the design and start focusing more on the writing. :)

Ari,

I tend to re-invent myself on a cyclical basis. It seems since you left your last full-time, in-house gig you've gone through several cycles of renewal: building up a lot of Twitter followers, scaling down your own Twitter following, migrating from Blogger to Wordpress, finding Thesis, changing the icon size, and now the latest iteration.

My own blog took a vacation (although micro-blogging on Twitter hasn't lagged) while I took time to focus on caring for my father. With a recent in-house layoff and my starting consulting work, there have been changes in my life giving it a good voluntary shake-up. I bought my first new Mac in about 7 years; setup a wireless network at home; started physical therapy for old injuries; bought new sun glasses and tried a new hair style.

I'll probably get into the online renewal in the weeks to come. For me, finding a good balance for both the substantial life changes (work, fitness/health, socializing), and the not-so-substantial life changes that can feel bigger (hair cut, clothing, blog template) can be tough, especially when there are things that may at first seem more important but amount to busy work... Especially when the busy work can masquerade as the other kind of changes.

So I'm trying to spend less time reorganizing my hard drive and more time reading my Kindle; less time folding socks and more time exploring feng shui.

Have you thought of working with a graphic designer? The one thing I haven't seen since following you online is a logo or some sort of visual branding. Maybe that's AriWriter 5.0 ?

Gib´s last blog post..brief tweets weekly (2009-05-08)

I'm in process of changing my site over to the Thesis theme too. My roadblock is the fact that I have been comfortable with coding straight PHP/HTML into the templates, and now I have to figure out the "hooks" and options. But I believe in change, and that it's healthy to mix it up to re-energize your love of your site.

I agree it's good to keep things fresh - stops us from stagnating both creatively and otherwise.

Not too sure about the big blue headline font, mind you ;-)
