Recreating Israeli food

Grocery list in hand, I walked up and down the Market Basket supermarket aisles and placed item after item into the cart. Despite keeping the list simple (and allegedly affordable), I somehow racked up $70 worth of food. It boggles the mind.

Amusingly, only the strawberries, blueberries, Kosher salami, chicken, carrots, basil, plums, and olives weren’t on my list. Everything else I intended to purchase. Considering my past history indicates food purchases that I never eat, it’s fair to assume I’ll eat everything I bought.

That said, I bought many foods I ate in Israel, such as the olives. Call it a relapse. I bought humus, tabouli, feta cheese, and mango nectar. I bought whole wheat pitas, cucumbers, tomatoes, and multi-colored peppers. I intend to recreate many dishes that I ate in Israel, such as cucumber and tomato salad; pepper, olive, and feta salad; and dipping everything from carrots to pita into the humus.

Next up is falafel, and whether to store-buy the stuff or make it myself.

If you have a good falafel recipe, please post it. I have never had good results with mixes.
