Stand Up and Sing, "Happy Blog Day 2008!"

In celebration of Blog Day 2008, today on August 31, I want to share with you a special list of five blogs from around the world that I find interesting and that you may like, too.

Thank you, Chris Betcher of Betchablog, for sharing your picks and telling me about this neat idea.

  1. Aid & Abet
Jen Angel is a Berkeley, California media activist who founded and edited Clamor Magazine, a quarterly social change/culture magazine (no longer printed) which I bought every issue of before subscribing. Jen recently spent some time in Guatemala and she blogged as often as she could, sharing wonderful language about her journey.
  2. eGov AU
Craig Thomler is an online communications manager for the Australian government who I discovered a few months ago. He tracks e-government initiatives around the world, and opines his “thoughts and speculations from an Australian perspective.” I always learn something new from Craig who exposes me to life on the other side of the planet.
  3. Subject to Change
Vanessa Mason graduated Yale, moved to Mozambique, and now lives and blogs from Argentina on global issues involving public health and social change. I subscribed to her feed shortly after seeing her comment on some blog. I am always fascinated reading stories by this world healer.
  4. Iceland Eyes
Maria Roff is someone new to me. I found her last night, wondering who is blogging from Iceland that’s not about music or expat experiences. Raised and educated in California, she now lives in Reykjavik teaching English and drama. Every post has text and a beautiful picture. Check her out!
  5. Antarctic Blog
Nicola Rickett is a British product manager with a travel company and writes about Antarctic tourism. Need I say more?

Do you have a blog and want to join the action? The official Blog Day website has more information, but the nuts and bolts of what to do are:

  1. Find 5 blogs that you find interesting.
  2. Write a short description of the blogs and make sure to link to them
  3. Publish it today (on August 31st)
  4. Add the following links to your page for tracking purposes: technorati.com/tag/BlogDay2008 and www.blogday.org.
