I’ve written time and time again that I don’t believe in coincidences, so perhaps synchronicity is a more appropriate word here?
Let me explain:
- John Hancock, in his role as Continental Congress president, signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.
- Hancock, Massachusetts was incorporated in 1776.
- I am spending seven days in Hancock.
- Yesterday, on July 1, 2008, American theaters saw the release of a blockbuster film, “Hancock,” starring actor Will Smith as superhero John Hancock.
- The difference between 2008 and 1776 is 232. Adding 2+3+2 is 7, represented by the month of July and the number of letters in Hancock.

Ari,
Did you travel to Hancock solely in order to make this coincidence a reality?
Ed
Hmmm…fishy…
Hancock looks like interesting spin on the latest superhero movie craze… if nothing else at least Will Smith tends to be pretty funny
Ed: Of course not, I hadn’t considered the Will Smith movie until the other day.
Andy: What have fish got to do with it?
Patrick: Considering Peter Berg has no blockbuster film credits to his name, presuming Hancock scores big at the box office, he may be the next Peter Jackson or Tony Scott.
