“The easiest kind of relationship for me is with ten thousand people,” folk singer Joan Baez once said. “The hardest is with one.”
This is a thank you post.
To everyone who opted to share their thoughts and comments with me over the month of July, please accept my hearty thanks:
Dave Atkins, Robin Birch, Will Boucher, David Bradley, Ed Cameron, Nancy Friedman, Byrne Hobart, Andy Hubbard, Franke James, John Kaiser, Cath Lawson, Patrick Roberts, Tom Salemi, Margaret Scarboro, Gillian Swart, Karen Zara, Mary at South End Blend, the UAE students, Bradley Jones, Gladys Kravitz, Dick Monahan, Anne, Brian, Michelle, angelmom66, and bepps.
Inspiration for this thank you post must be credited, among others, to David Mullen and Becky McCray for each thanking me on their own blogs! Here are good tidings back your way!
On the subject of thanking people, I must poke beyond the confines of ariwriter.com and into other people’s blogs who linked to mine last month and helped shrink the size and separation of the blogosphere:
- Liz Strauss for linking to 260 bloggers who volunteered to be included in a blog-to-show linkfest. Her massive post spawned others on and off her list to further share the glory, including:
- Luc Debaisieux at Mindblob
- Deb at Punctuality Rules
- Lionel Valdellon at Acid 42
- Cath Lawson for linking to 131 bloggers who shared their thoughts on her blog in recent months.
- Darren Rowse for enabling almost 700 bloggers to enter into a social media love-in.
Please visit these people linked above and if you like what they have to say, be sure to post a comment on their sites, not just mine.
The power of the web is in the idea there are people I don’t know about who will read my blog or read someone else’s blog and be inspired to join both of our communities and enrich the conversation. In this sense, 1 + 1 = 3.

It never fails to amaze me, how wonderful the online community is. Because, that’s what it IS–a community. Some neighborhoods might be friendlier than others, but it’s all a nice place to be.
This is a great post. I agree with Deb – so far my experience in the blogging community has been nothing short of positive and inspiring.
Keep up the great work!
Ari,
Well… thank you for the thank you note you wrote. ; ) It was indeed a very nice experience introduced by Liz and giving us the opportunity to discover blogs and bloggers that we had not “met” before.
Linking makes me think about this quote : “Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.” – Albert Einstein.
Thanks for the link; don’t quite follow your logic there at the end about 1+1=3.
That social media love-in was great; increased my Twitter use oodles, and started me off on Plurk.
@Luc_debaiseux Nice quote.
@Deb and Mary: The online community is but a fragment of the world in which we live, so of course it is wonderful!
@Luc: Due to his work on the Atom Bomb, I wouldn’t be surprised if he saw schematics of the ARPAnet but imagine Albert Einstein’s reaction to the concept of the World Wide Web today. What do you think he’d say?
@Will: You probably came to my blog because I came to yours, but were you inspired to visit Deb, Mary, and Luc merely because they posted comments above you? If so, you prove my and Einstein’s point that the shortest distance between two people is not necessarily logic. Hence, 1+1=3.
Hmm – I see now. I actually didn’t this time, however I often do.
Not that you mentioned it of course, I am.
Hi Ari – That’s a brilliant post title and it’s so true. Thanks for linking to my post.
@Will: Glad to help.
@Cath: Anytime.
And thankyou to you Ari for the link!
You just GOTTA love the blog-o-sphere!
I know I’m very, very late. But I hadn’t spotted your backlink before. This only goes to show you I’m not so obsessed over blog stats.
Thank you for the link.
Now I’m going to explore the other blogs listed in your post.
