I shot the above photo last weekend at Palm Beach, for which the city of West Palm Beach, Florida is named.
It was a very hot weekend, with temperatures in the mid 90s. My mother, sister, and I went down for three days and stayed at a B&B called the Tropical Gardens.
Owned by New York transplants Steve and Evie Bebensee, the bed and breakfast is a homey oasis in the middle of a partially-gentrified neighborhood about 15 minutes north of Palm Beach International Airport.
Despite the proximity of the municipal Palm Beach about five miles away, the property had its own pool…
…flower-lined patio…
…wildlife in the form of plants and lizards…
…and oodles of fruit at breakfast on the patio.
I posted a review of the B&B and my stay at TripAdvisor.

I always wonder about places on the beach that have pools. I can even remember when I was a kid, in Barbados, questioning my mother about why this one place had a pool when the ocean was right there. Guess you have to suit all tastes.
Anyway … nice photos!
Oh, and by the way, you guys could have just come to my house and I would have charged a lot less.
My neighbors have a pool, there’s a beach a hop, skip and jump away, I’ve got nice flowers, but no lizards. I also had some grapes and bananas.
Of course, you would have had to sleep in the shed ..
Depending on the climate, the ocean may not be as suitable as a temperature-controlled pool.
Thanks for the invite to sleep in your shed and lounge at your friend’s pool. I’ll pass on the former and may take your friend up on the latter.
Actually … the people with the pool do not associate with the rest of us neighborhood riff-raff. You would only be able to lounge while they were out of town. Hence the discounted rates.
Hey, buddy…thanks for visiting my page. How in the world did you find my little tiny blog-o-shere?
Anyway, I love the pictures. Especially the lizard. It is pictures like Palm Beach that remind me why I have a 401k.
Tiny, Andy? Sounds modest given who hosts you. I came across you via Trent at The Simple Dollar.
