Everyone is blogging and tweeting and podcasting and digging and stumbling upon and God knows how many other social media service processes about the news of the day that U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, a senator from Illinois, chose Joe Biden, a senator from Delaware, to run with him for the vice presidency.
Who am I not to join the Biden Blogging Bandwagon?
Rather than rehash the same news over and over that you can listen to over and over on CNN, here is a summary of some of the better blog posts that I’ve seen today:
- Obama VP Pick Joe Biden: Good on Civil Liberties, Friendly to Hollywood: Blogged by Wired geek Sarah Lai Stirland. It’s heavy on newsy quotes, but it’s Wired and not the Times.
- Obama Intros Biden as “The Next President” Blogged by Elizabeth “Media Lizzy” Blackney of BlogTalkRadio.com. While she merely links to a CNN bit of Obama’s goof, she writes it with pizzazz.
- The Newlyweds: Blogged by WBZ Channel 4 at-large correspondent Jon Keller. (WBZ is the Boston franchise of CBS.) I love the part when Jon opines, “…you gotta wonder just how many families were indoors on the last summer Saturday before the start of the school year drinking in this oddly stale bit of political theater.“
- It’s Biden: Blogged by Kathy Kattenburg. Her title alone is simple, to the point, why embellish with other blabber? By linking to other blogger reactions, Kathy suggests that Obama lacks confidence by picking Biden.
- Obama Picks Biden: Blogged by self-described citizen journalist Faye Anderson, she summarizes the news we already know after the “week-long tease” that Biden would be the chosen man. She also links to a Washington Post-ABC News poll that 75% of Americans are not swayed by Biden.
- And So It’s Biden: Blogged by Atlantic Monthly columnist Ta-Nehisi Coates who is fed up with political theater and wants the media to change its campaign coverage. “Stop telling me how much money Obama is pouring into those states. I want to know what that money does, how is it being put to work. Less top-down coverage, more bottom up.” Amen.
- Obama’s VP Pick: International Clean Tech Crusader: Blogged by the tech folks who blog every day behind the National Journal curtain. This title stems from a bill Biden proposed earlier this month that creates an International Clean Technology Deployment Fund to “help developing countries tackle climate change and promote the global deployment of U.S. clean energy technology.“
- It’s President McCain: Blogged by Boston Herald columnist Jules Crittenden. No surprise there, as the Herald is a staunch Republican paper whereas the Boston Globe is Democratic. I wonder if everyone at the Herald agrees with Jules.
- Secret Service are Now Protecting Biden: Blogged by Donklephant’s Justin Gardner before the news hit that Obama picked Biden. What if Biden wasn’t going to be picked? Robert F. Kennedy’s legacy aside, who would then explain to the American people the rationale for what-if protection?
- And don’t forget D.C. gossip blog Wonkette where the worthy read is not in the top post but in the bottom comments.
Where Were You When Obama Announced His Vice President? Blogger Max Gladwell wants to know. I was online, waiting for that email alert which never came.
